Our Preparation for Adulthood Programme
Tailored Opportunities for Growth
Life Shed’s PFA programme is designed to work collaboratively alongside schools and educational provisions to equip young people in years 10-11 with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need as they transition into adulthood.
Delivered through an individualised approach, the programme recognises each young person’s unique aspirations and provides tailored opportunities for growth.
Key features include:
PERSONALISED PATHWAYS: Our young people receive one-to-one guidance and mentoring to explore future options such as further education, supported internships, work-based learning, or employment.
ASPIRATIONAL PLANNING: The young people are supported to identify their personal goals and map out achievable steps toward them. Our young people will have access to our Preparation for Adulthood room and resources to do this.
PRACTICAL EXPLORATION: Opportunities are provided to visit colleges, training providers, and workplaces, accompanied by their mentor, to build confidence and first-hand understanding.
INDIVIDUALISED WORK-BASED LEARNING: Our young people may engage in a structured programme with a set number of visits to an employer or post-16 educational provision (e.g. sessions at a mechanics, leisure centre, or wildlife animal care unit). These placements provide hands-on experience, the chance to assist with daily tasks, and opportunities to work alongside industry professionals.
REAL-WORLD CONNECTIONS: Links are developed with external organisations to facilitate applications, arrange taster days, and secure further work-based learning experiences.
